Preface
Welcome to the official website of the Slovak Myeloma Society.
March is Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month. The MM community from across Europe is raising awareness of the unmet needs that remain for those living with this complex disease.
A diagnosis of multiple myeloma can hit you hard. It’s only natural to feel uncertain and have negative feelings. You may feel confused, anxious, or depressed. Connecting with other patients will help you get through the adjustment period and give you strength for steps ahead.
Multiple myeloma is currently an incurable disease, characterised by a pattern of remission and relapse. The most common symptoms are fatigue, infections, anaemia, bone pain and fractures. There are often no symptoms in the early stages of myeloma, and in some cases, it may be detected during a routine blood test.
Don’t be afraid to ask family, friends, or support groups for help! Find strength in the stories of myeloma patients from across Central Europe shared in the documentary
The official premiere of the documentary film was on March 21, 2023 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, attended by our patient Zuzana Gajdošíková, who received the award from the hands of the former President of Slovenia.
The patient stories were produced in collaboration with several European patient organisations and supported by Janssen.
The Slovak Myeloma Society (SMyS) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2006.
The Slovak Myeloma Society webside is divided into an Experts' section which brings together physicians and other professionals and a Patients' section. Sens is a member of the international patient organization Myeloma Patients Europe and an international network of patient groups International Myeloma Foundation - Global Myeloma Action Network. We are open to cooperation with other international and domestic organizations with similar objectives.
The key principle of our work is the efficient use of funds. Resources for our activities come from grants, donations and 2% of tax.
